CA Beach Flake Story

a sparked idea at coronado and La Jolla

We are always searching for new places to enjoy, and love SoCal beaches as millions have.  We were told to visit Coronado Beach in San Diego, and were surprised as so many have been, to see this beautiful natural metallic flake shimmering in the water, and on the sand.  Gold, Silver, and Black mica laid out in waves.  Playing with it and wiping it on each other like beach warpaint.  Later to find another great GOLDEN beach spot, La Jolla Beach as well.

showing CA beach love

Being a custom painter for 22 years, I thought if we could harness this natural beauty, and seperate it from the sand and impurities, who WOULDNT want that natural CA beach flake infused into their custom paintwork, adding even more meaning to their design.  ESPECIALLY someone as appreciative of the California beaches and raw beauty of this state as we are.  If nothing else, CAbeachFlake is another thing to talk about when showing off you're new custom paint job, infused with SoCal Beach Flake.

our Seperation process

The largest obstacle in harvesting the Gold, Silver, and Black mica from the SoCal beaches, is seperating it from impurities.  Mainly the fine sand, which weighs nearly the same, and often is the same size or smaller.  Beginning with hand separation, and then floating it off, to boiling in clean water, and finally Froth Flotation.

In the end leaving us with a minimal amount of sand.  There is definitely some of the fine sand left in our sprayable mixture, that you can feel and see if you look for it, but that adds to the natural raw beauty of this recipe.  We wouldn't want it to be 100% free of beach sand.
